Let’s take a moment to use the brain to ponder the brain. A bit like introspection, only it isn’t. But kind of.
The thing about the brain is, that it’s precious – it cannot be replaced or transplanted.
Pretty much every organ performs a dazzling feat of some sort:
- the newly discovered hiding-in-plain-site interstitium wraps around other organs to protect them (aww!)
- the intricate vascular network sloshes blood and lymph throughout the body for deliveries and pickups of oxygen, nutrients, and waste
- the heart drums out 115,000 beats a day
But one precocious organ stands (a head) above the rest: the brain.
Come to think of it, perhaps the brain’s positioning is intentional – distinguishing itself with the requirement that we look up to it!
- Maybe our bodies – organs, muscles, bones, and nerves – instinctively recognize the nobility and magnificence of the brain because they know the brain is in command.
- When the breath flutters with passion, the heart warms with love, or the nerves interpret tenderness, they can only do so because the brain is directing them to.
The brain certainly exudes magnificence, and it also exerts influence – considerable influence. In fact, the brain influences every aspect of your life.
- New findings in neuroscience reveal that your intelligence, memory, creativity, physical health, degree of happiness, and ability to feel confident are all contingent on the strength of your brain. Ponder that!
No really! Ponder that. Neuroscience is telling us that brain strength is a hack for health, happiness, creativity, confidence, memory, and smarts.
And that is a splendid list (and likely everything you want for your baby). So heed the magnificence of your brain and your motherhood-as-a-higher-calling instincts, and give your baby a gift that lasts a lifetime!
